New Season, New Goals, New Journey

Hey there, friend! I have a rather unusual post today.

If you're on my email list, you might remember that I said I wouldn't be posting consistently on my blog anymore. Well, I decided to keep posting consistently but changed my schedule to every two weeks, which worked well for a little while.

But now it's time for me to move on from blogging. It's a new season for me, bringing new goals and ultimately a new journey.

Let me tell you my whole blogging story and the reason I'm saying goodbye to blogging. . . .

First off, can I just say how amazing this journey has been for me? I've learned a ton about blogging, and I don't regret starting this blog at all. It's been an incredible journey of growing and maturing. I've loved it so much!

I joined the Young Writers Workshop in January 2018, and I've been a member ever since. In March 2018, I started a small blog called Willowcreek Pines. The design was cheap and horrible, but it taught me a lot that first year. I was so excited to move to this blog a year later—though it had a different design and layout before I changed to the one I have now.

For two years, I posted nearly every single week on my blog. This summer, I was working a job and going to volleyball practices, and my time was so consumed with those things that I hardly had time to write, let alone prepare blog posts for each week. So I decided to take a hiatus, and by the time I started blogging again in September, I don't think I had quite recovered from the busyness of the summer. I still felt mentally drained. I wasn't writing consistently either, which threw all of my writing off.

With COVID and everything else going on, my perspective on life has changed. My desires and priorities have changed. My passions have changed.

Till recently, I was a primarily fiction writer, but now I write almost exclusively nonfiction. I love the fact that I can write for websites like The Rebelution, and I've realized that that's where my passion is: writing for Christian teens.

Jesus is my passion. Serving him is my desire. Writing for him is my priority.

Of course, I could still serve him here, but I want to use my time and energy for writing what I'm truly passionate about. I've lost my motivation and inspiration to write for this blog, and after praying about it and talking to a mentor about it, I've decided it's time for me to move on.

I'm so grateful for the support and encouragement you all have given me. Thank you for your prayers and kind comments. I wouldn't trade this journey for anything.

And now to answer a couple of questions . . .

No, I'm not done writing! I love it too much to give it up. My writing journey is going to look different now, but it's a new adventure I can't wait to take!

I plan to keep writing online on websites like The Rebelution and hopefully extend to other websites as well. I'm going to focus on a monthly email for my email list to keep in touch with y'all.

No, I'm not shutting the blog down. I know it's helped a lot of you, and I want to keep those posts and resources available.

I plan to use this blog as a website where people can find me and sign up on my email list if they want to follow my journey.

I know this probably came to you as a surprise, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from, now that I've told you my reasons for moving on. It wasn't the easiest decision to make, but I've prayed about it, and I believe it's the best one. I'm excited about this new journey, and I hope you'll follow me!

Happy writing!

In Christ,

  1. Julia, I've been thinking about these same things for me and my blog, whether it's still want I want to do, etc. I'm excited for you to be taking this next step in your writing journey! ;)

    1. Thank you so much, Bella! I went back and forth with the decision, but after praying about it and talking a mentor, it feels like the right decision. I'm excited for this new journey too! <3

  2. Aw, it is bittersweet to see your blog go, as I've been reading it all the way back since Willowcreek Pines and it was one of the first I followed after joining YDubs. But I am so excited to see where your writing journey goes next and what God has in store for you. <3

    1. Aww, thanks, Eliana! I'm gonna miss it too, but yes, I'm excited for this new journey! <3
